Calhoun roof

Harkness Tower with the word "Sample" printed over itIf you want a different view that not many have seen, climb to the top of the back side of Calhoun (or whatever it is called these days) that looks out on Beineke, the library and Berkeley College. Eddie Wright (r.i.p.) and I shared what was then an L shaped double on the 6th floor, and we had access to the tower on the roof. From there you can actually see the miniature castle on the top of the library.

Walter Camp Gate at the Bowl

The Walter Camp Gate at the entrance to the Yale athletic field complexI spent more time than most on the practice fields at Yale, and riding the bus from Payne Whitney to football and baseball practices at the athletic fields. One special memory for me is always the Walter Camp Gate, the columned entrance to the tennis courts and the Bowl. I took the time at our 45th reunion to walk around that grand entrance with my 4th son. It is a magnificent tribute to what Yale did to “invent” the game of football, and if you look at the number of schools and institutions that contributed to its construction which are chiseled into the sides, it is a reminder of the rich history of Yale and Yale football in particular.
